The Friends of the Lena Armstrong Public Library has three major activities during the year that offer opportunities for volunteering.
- The annual Book and Author Luncheon is held the last Saturday of February. Volunteer possibilities include soliciting and/or donating items for the silent auction, greeting guests and assisting authors at the luncheon and a variety of other light duties.
- The Turtle Fest is an annual City event held in Yettie Polk Park the last Saturday of April. Volunteers are needed to spend an hour or more manning the Friends' book booth. To encourage children reading, each child at Turtle Fest is able to choose a free book from a large selection.
- Christmas on the Chisholm Trail is held in downtown Belton the first Saturday of December. This is the City's annual Christmas event and the Friends have a booth to distribute free books to children. Volunteers are needed to assist the children in selecting their books.
Each of these events is fun and rewarding. It never fails to stir the heart when a child responds "This is for me?!" upon receiving a book. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator though the above link, any Board member or the Belton Library for more information.
